The event was coordinated by Simon Shorrick and Lorraine Peters of the Health Facilitation Team at the 2gether Trust. Those attending were able to take part in a wide range of activities, find out more about local services and resources from the 78 stalls and get involved in a number of fun and informative sessions. Activities included; sports, adapted bikes and trikes, archery, athletics, boccia, football, cricket and wheelchair dancing.

There was also GP training on the day; a GP refresher training about people with learning disabilities. 17 GP practices present with updates on annual health checks, Health Action Plans, confidential inquiry recommendations (including mortality review), Commissioning priorities. The training was delivered by 2gether Trust Consultant’s, LD Champion GP, Physio’s, Salt’s, Dietician and PBM trainer. On the day they were all interviewed and filmed for 3 minutes each, to capture the key messages of their presentations. This will be pulled together and made available to GP’s unable to attend – and can be accessed soon through G-Care website, part of Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust.

Big Health Check Day is funded and supported by Gloucestershire County Council, NHS Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group, 2gether NHS Foundation Trust, Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust, Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Active Gloucestershire, Gloucester City Homes, Gloucestershire Voices and the Barnwood Trust under the umbrella of Gloucestershire Learning Disability Partnership Board.
