Cas writes: Cas Greenfield’s Farewell Britannia

I just couldn’t help myself! Recorded live without mic or amp at The Little Vic, Stroud during our Words and Music event on April 23rd. (Feel free to substitute Britannia with Amerika or anywhere else you think fits…)

my nerves are raw and i can’t sleep
i keep dreaming of a place that I once knew
where we could love and live in peace
as free as the air, as free as the breeze
but the dream is over
after the great divide
cause i’m living in a place of deep disgrace
that i do not recognise

now it’s farewell Brittania
farewell to thee
farewell to the land i knew
and the life that used to be
it’s farewell to thee.

and now its hard to trust at all
i don’t even use my given name
So who’s to blame?
who builds the walls?
the devil in his tower
with his finger on the power
he’s closing up the cracks that we chipped away for years
and he wears a bloody crown of deep disgrace
that i do not recognise

and it’s farewell Britannia
farewell to thee
farewell to the land i love
and the life that used to be
it’s farewell to thee.

and i’m sick of all the fighting
and i’m sick of all the warring
and i don’t think that there’s anywhere left to run

and it’s farewell Britannia
farewell to thee
farewell to the land i love
and the life that used to be
it’s farewell to thee.
