Hattie writes: I wrote “A Beautiful Mind” following the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. It’s a tribute to Pete Seeger, who died earlier in 2014. The inspiration came from the words and performance of Peggy Seeger at The Royal Albert Hall. I hope it conveys my admiration for a man whose music has and will continue to influence whole generations. Find the lyrics below. They say you are the one they call the wordsmith,
They say the songs you only wrote them down,
I heard you suffered for your fortune,
I heard it never dragged you down.
You had a beautiful mind, you had a beautiful face,
You had a way of talking meant that no word went to waste.
They say your notebook stayed open,
They say you’re heart never closed.
I see the walls that you kicked over,
The man behind I’ll never know.
You had a beautiful mind, you had a beautiful face,
You had a way of talking meant that no word went to waste, No word went to waste
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
You know they write by numbers now,
There’ll be a handbook soon,
I’ve always said I’m old before my time.
My years will bring me back to you.
You had a beautiful mind, you had a beautiful face,
You had a way of talking meant that no word went to waste. No word went to waste.
