Cotswold Canals: great story of Westfield Bridge

Cotswold Canals film from 14th May 2015; Mrs Caroline Prentice relates the story of the “Battle of Westfield Bridge”, where in 1969 her widowed mother, Mrs Christine Hearsey, triumphantly defied contractors from destroying Westfield Bridge by standing on it for a whole day. Westfield Bridge and the adjoining remains of Westfield lock mark the start of what is now referred to as the “missing mile”. To commemorate this incredible action, and to launch a major funding bid for restoration of the Cotswold Canals between the Ocean at Stonehouse and Saul Junction, water was ceremonially poured by Mrs Prentice from the parapet of Westfield Bridge.
