Last Night of the Proms 2009: Royal Albert Hall, 12 September 2009. Mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly performs “Thy hand, Belinda… When I am laid in Earth” (Dido’s Lament) from Henry Purcell’s 1689 opera Dido and Aeneas. This is followed by the closing chorus “With drooping wings ye cupids come”, sung by the BBC Singers.

Selsey-based Sarah Connolly, CBE, is one of the foremost British mezzo sopranos. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Music where she studied piano and singing. She has been nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award, a TMA Award, two Grammy Awards and won an Edison, Gramophone and South Bank Awards. See more at her website: http://sarah-connolly.com
