In the interests of representing all views here is a comment emailed: “We do not need the monarchy for great parties like this. I hope that all those who are celebrating the Diamond Jubilee will want to party like this again and again. We need spaces to grow together as people, republicans and royalists, anarchists and conservatives, but surely this is not best done under the banner of the celebration of the monarchy? I like the queen, but the idea of a monarchy should be discarded to the dustbin of history. As an institution, it enshrines inequality and says that it is OK to be born into positions of power and wealth. We need to see the monarchy cease to be an office of government.”

What are your thoughts? It was a great party.

For me the pageantry and ceremony of the Monarchy, and in particular, this year’s Diamond Jubilee celebration at the Whiteshill and Ruscombe village party, makes me proud to say I’m British.

I should hate to be without our Royal Family and view them as hard working and a huge asset to our nation in providing us with stability.

I feel sad that certain individuals are blind to the fact that The Monarchy is non-political and a democratic institution, in a world increasingly dominated by totalitarianism.

In losing the Monarchy in favour of a Republic, and appointing a President, we would be in danger of threatening our unique heritage and democratic identity.
