Today was a chance for people to walk along the new 330m stretch of canal at Capel Mill in Stroud – the canal has been carved out of a 1970s refuse tip and you can still see bits of plastic coming through the concrete pillars which keep it in place. The temporary dam, currently holds back a 1.5m wall of water, is due to be removed in the next week.

The project dubbed ‘the missing link’, links Bowbridge and Stroud and has been described as “one of the most challenging” on the canal. See more about the restoration process and how to get involved as a volunteer or member of the Cotswold Canal Trust at:
