MEPs unite from different parties and different countries to speak out against human rights abuses committed by China. Particularly on the imprisonment of Ilhan Tohti, an Uyghur academic and against the demolition of the Larung Gar Buddhist Academy in Tibet. Molly Scott Cato writes: The destruction of the Buddhist academy of Larung Gar in Tibet, and the unjust imprisonment of the Uyghur intellectual Ilham Tohti are both examples of where the Chinese government is committing human rights abuses. We call upon the Chinese government to release Ilham Tohti, and to re-engage with a high-level dialogue with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Governments who engage with China must give human rights priority over economic interests.
