Here is a film with Ruscombe resident Rachel Cotterill speaking at the wonderful TEDx talks. This is what TED x write: “In particular, she is interested in how we negotiate our social roles and relationships in an online environment, where linguistic style has to take on the role usually carried by body language and vocal inflection. In the course of her work, she has demonstrated that organizational hierarchies can be identified using a small set of stylistic cues – but that we each have personal definitions of what constitutes appropriate formality in an informal medium. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations).”
