Marling versus Millfield – Clifton 7 a side tournament 1967

Film by Robert Paget. He writes: Clifton Sevens 1967 film clips from the quarter and semi finals ( Thornbury Grammar?)leading up to the exciting final, with Marling summarily defeating Millfield. At the final whistle , the crowd were shouting with excitement and beating the walls of the stadium. Marling school staff present were Peter Young and Horace Waldron. “Waldron” went straight to the emergency phone hanging on the wall of the stadium to ring the Head (L E Godfrey Jones). “We’ve just beaten Millfield, headmaster!” This was an all round team, strong both in attack and defence, and as far as I remember comprised:
Des Diamond (Captain)
Roy Badham
Phil Whettell
Brian Leach
Mike Walker
Mick Macarthy
Dave Owen / Sparky Butt ?
My apologies if any names are incorrect. Please leave a message if any correction required.
Filmed on Kodachrome II using clockwork Quartz standard 8 camera.

Tournament was actually in March 1978. We played Millfield in the semi-final and Thornbury Grammar in the final. Team was as listed except Frank McCarthy not Mike and Dave Owen not Sparky Butt. The following week we went on to win the Oxford Schools Sevens.
